1. How do you activate the FlashPack™ hot packs for Instant Heat ?:
- Hold the FlashPack™ in one hand.
- With your other hand press the middle of the metal disk inside the FlashPack™ until it clicks.
- The contents of the FlashPack™ will start to turn solid white when it is activated.
- Once completely solid white, squeeze the FlashPack™ to make it soft and flexible.
- FlashPack™ is ready for use!
2. How do you Re-Use the FlashPack™?
- Using a pot that will allow you to submerge most or all of the FlashPack™, bring water to a slow-medium boil. Place a thin cloth in the bottom of the pot.
- Place the FlashPack™ in the boiling water until the contents return to a clear liquid form. This typically takes between 10-15 minutes. If after 10-15 minutes there are still some solid particles in the FlashPack™ or if it becomes hard, boil it for a few minutes longer.
- Once the FlashPack™ has returned to a clear liquid form remove from the boiling water and allow it to cool.
- When the FlashPack™ has cooled completely (1-2 hours) it is ready for re-use!
3. How long do the FlashPack™ hot packs stay warm?
- The heat duration of the FlashPack™ depends on its size and if it is insulated. The larger the FlashPack™ the longer it will radiate heat. Also, the better the insulation (i.e. cover, glove, inside of a pocket, etc.) around the FlashPack™ the longer the duration of the heat.
Typical Heat Duration:
- Glove FlashPack™– 20-30 minutes inside gloves
- Hand / Pocket FlashPack™– 45-60 minutes inside pocket
- Back & Body FlashPack™– 60-90 minutes
4. How do I boil the FlashPack™ if my pot is not large enough to submerge it?
- The FlashPack™ hot packs do not have to be submerged completely in water while boiling. They are also very flexible, even in the crystallized or hardened state. Therefore they can be gently bent to fit into a pot that is smaller than their size.
5. Is the FlashPack™ safe to use?
- Yes, the FlashPack™ is completely safe. It contains a non-toxic, food grade salt solution, water and a small stainless steel disc. The FlashPack™ heats up to a comfortable, constant 50 degrees C. / 122 F. (approximately) and will never get too hot.
6. What is the FlashPack™ made of?
- The FlashPack™ is made of high quality, medical grade PVC (I.e. thicker than most other heat packs and pads). This is an extremely sturdy and flexible material that helps ensure a long lifespan for the FlashPack™.
7. How does the FlashPack™ work?
- The FlashPack™ works through a process called super cooling. The FlashPack™ contains a solution of sodium acetate, water and a stainless steel disk. Flexing the disk causes the solution to crystallize or freeze. While freezing the FlashPack™ radiates heat at a constant 50 degrees C / 122 F (approximately).
8. How many times can the FlashPack™ be used and re-used?
- Theoretically, the FlashPack™ can be used and re-used an infinite number of times as there is no limit to the reaction. Practically, the high quality PVC cover will last through hundreds to thousands of uses.
9. Can the FlashPack™ be heated in a Microwave or Oven?
- NO, the FlashPack™ is not Microwave safe nor should it be heated in an Oven. Please do not Microwave the FlashPack™.
10. How should the FlashPack™ be stored?
- The FlashPack™ is best stored in its liquid state. If it is stored for prolonged periods in the crystallized state a small amount of water may evaporate from it causing the solution to form snowflake crystals. These may be removed by extending the boiling time and leaving the FlashPack™ in water as it cools.
